| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Senior Officer Amador Gonzalez of the Corpus Christi |

| 7 | 8 | | and the Police Shield for his courageous actions in the line of |

| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, At midday on March 20, 2014, Officer Gonzalez and |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | Senior Officer Scott Goodman were summoned to investigate a report |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | of a suspicious person in a neighborhood that had experienced a |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | string of attempted burglaries; and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, The officers had located and confronted the suspect, |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | when the man suddenly drew a handgun and shot Officer Goodman; |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | Officer Gonzalez quickly returned fire, protecting his partner from |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | further harm; both Officer Gonzalez and the suspect were |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | subsequently wounded, and the suspect soon fled the scene; Officer |

| 18 | 19 | | Gonzalez radioed his colleagues to alert them to the suspect's |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | direction of travel, which led to the man's arrest soon afterward; |

| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Although seriously injured himself, Officer |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | Gonzalez recognized the severity of Officer Goodman's wounds and |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | promptly began rendering first aid, which included the use of a |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | tourniquet to slow the loss of blood; his actions effectively |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | stabilized the officer's injuries until emergency help arrived; and |

| 26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, In the course of a perilous and fast-moving |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | incident, Officer Amador Gonzalez acted swiftly and bravely to save |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | the life of a fellow officer, and his efforts have distinguished him |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | as a truly outstanding member of the law enforcement profession; |

| 30 | 31 | | now, therefore, be it |

| 31 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

| 32 | 33 | | Legislature hereby honor Senior Officer Amador Gonzalez on his |
