H.R. No. 1501 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Senior Officer Amador Gonzalez of the Corpus Christi Police Department has deservedly been awarded the Medal of Honor and the Police Shield for his courageous actions in the line of duty; and WHEREAS, At midday on March 20, 2014, Officer Gonzalez and Senior Officer Scott Goodman were summoned to investigate a report of a suspicious person in a neighborhood that had experienced a string of attempted burglaries; and WHEREAS, The officers had located and confronted the suspect, when the man suddenly drew a handgun and shot Officer Goodman; Officer Gonzalez quickly returned fire, protecting his partner from further harm; both Officer Gonzalez and the suspect were subsequently wounded, and the suspect soon fled the scene; Officer Gonzalez radioed his colleagues to alert them to the suspect's direction of travel, which led to the man's arrest soon afterward; and WHEREAS, Although seriously injured himself, Officer Gonzalez recognized the severity of Officer Goodman's wounds and promptly began rendering first aid, which included the use of a tourniquet to slow the loss of blood; his actions effectively stabilized the officer's injuries until emergency help arrived; and WHEREAS, In the course of a perilous and fast-moving incident, Officer Amador Gonzalez acted swiftly and bravely to save the life of a fellow officer, and his efforts have distinguished him as a truly outstanding member of the law enforcement profession; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas Legislature hereby honor Senior Officer Amador Gonzalez on his receipt of the Medal of Honor and the Police Shield from the Corpus Christi Police Department and extend to him sincere appreciation for his selfless dedication to duty; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Officer Gonzalez as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
