| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Senior Officer Scott Goodman of the Corpus Christi |

| 6 | 7 | | Police Department has been awarded the Police Shield, an honor |

| 7 | 8 | | presented to peace officers who are seriously injured while serving |

| 8 | 9 | | their fellow citizens; and |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, At midday on March 20, 2014, Officer Goodman and |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | Senior Officer Amador Gonzalez were summoned to investigate a |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | report of a suspicious person in a neighborhood that had |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | experienced a string of attempted burglaries; and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, The officers had located and confronted the suspect, |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | when the man suddenly drew a handgun and shot Officer Goodman; |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | Officer Gonzalez and the suspect exchanged fire, both were |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | subsequently wounded, and the suspect soon fled the scene; and |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Officer Goodman received first aid for his wounds |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | from Officer Gonzalez, who helped to stabilize Officer Goodman |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | until emergency help arrived; meanwhile, the officers' colleagues |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | were notified about the suspect's escape and arrested the man soon |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | afterward; and |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Members of the law enforcement profession willingly |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | place themselves in harm's way each day to safeguard the lives and |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | property of those they are sworn to protect, and Officer Scott |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | Goodman is truly deserving of special recognition for his |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | dedication to this noble calling; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | Legislature hereby recognize Senior Officer Scott Goodman on his |

| 29 | 30 | | receipt of the Police Shield from the Corpus Christi Police |

| 30 | 31 | | Department and extend to him sincere appreciation for his admirable |
