H.R. No. 1502 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Senior Officer Scott Goodman of the Corpus Christi Police Department has been awarded the Police Shield, an honor presented to peace officers who are seriously injured while serving their fellow citizens; and WHEREAS, At midday on March 20, 2014, Officer Goodman and Senior Officer Amador Gonzalez were summoned to investigate a report of a suspicious person in a neighborhood that had experienced a string of attempted burglaries; and WHEREAS, The officers had located and confronted the suspect, when the man suddenly drew a handgun and shot Officer Goodman; Officer Gonzalez and the suspect exchanged fire, both were subsequently wounded, and the suspect soon fled the scene; and WHEREAS, Officer Goodman received first aid for his wounds from Officer Gonzalez, who helped to stabilize Officer Goodman until emergency help arrived; meanwhile, the officers' colleagues were notified about the suspect's escape and arrested the man soon afterward; and WHEREAS, Members of the law enforcement profession willingly place themselves in harm's way each day to safeguard the lives and property of those they are sworn to protect, and Officer Scott Goodman is truly deserving of special recognition for his dedication to this noble calling; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas Legislature hereby recognize Senior Officer Scott Goodman on his receipt of the Police Shield from the Corpus Christi Police Department and extend to him sincere appreciation for his admirable public service; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Officer Goodman as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
