6 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A sustainable agricultural system is crucial to the |

9 | 8 | | WHEREAS, In the United States, the agriculture and food |

10 | 9 | | production industries employ precision farming equipment, crop |

11 | 10 | | protection chemistries, genetic engineering or enhancement, |

12 | 11 | | agricultural nutrients, and other modern technologies; such |
---|
13 | 12 | | advanced practices protect the safety of the public and reduce |
---|
14 | 13 | | environmental impact while expanding yields, improving |
---|
15 | 14 | | profitability, and ensuring an abundant and affordable food supply; |

16 | 15 | | and |
---|
17 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Agricultural pests present significant dangers to |

18 | 17 | | the industry and to global supplies of the products they attack; |

19 | 18 | | accordingly, the environmental risks of forgoing advances in |

20 | 19 | | agricultural technologies that protect crops are severe; excessive |
---|
21 | 20 | | regulation may scuttle or discourage the use of agricultural |
---|
22 | 21 | | chemicals that could improve human welfare; and |

23 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Crop protection is among the most studied and highly |
---|
24 | 23 | | regulated of all industries, at both the state and federal levels; |
---|
25 | 24 | | the use of sound science should be the bedrock of our nation's |
---|
26 | 25 | | regulatory scheme for the agriculture and food production |
---|
27 | 26 | | industries, as these industries are critical to the economic |
---|
28 | 27 | | vitality of Texas and the United States; now, therefore, be it |
---|
29 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
---|
30 | 29 | | Legislature hereby express support for the use of sound science to |
---|
31 | 30 | | study and regulate such modern agricultural technologies as crop |
---|
32 | 31 | | protection chemistries, genetically engineered or enhanced traits, |
---|
33 | 32 | | and nutrients; and, be it further |
---|
34 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the Texas House of Representatives express |
---|
35 | 34 | | opposition to legislative or regulatory action at any level that |
---|
36 | 35 | | may result in unnecessary restrictions on the use of modern |
---|
37 | 36 | | agricultural technologies; and, be it further |
---|
38 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the chief clerk forward official copies of |
---|
39 | 38 | | this resolution to the president of the United States, to the |
---|
40 | 39 | | president of the Senate and the speaker of the House of |
---|
41 | 40 | | Representatives of the United States Congress, and to all the |
---|
42 | 41 | | members of the Texas delegation to Congress with the request that |
---|
43 | 42 | | this resolution be entered in the Congressional Record as a |
---|
44 | 43 | | memorial to the Congress of the United States of America. |
