H.R. No. 1602
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The mock trial team from Midway High School took
second place at the 2015 Region 12 High School Mock Trial
Competition, held February 10-12 in Waco; and
WHEREAS, Facing off against the top area squads, the students
from Midway High demonstrated a keen knowledge of the facts and
intricate details of their assigned case while arguing before
judges and lawyers at the Baylor Law School and the McLennan County
Courthouse; the team defeated West High School in the semifinals to
advance to the final round, where they ultimately fell short of the
regional title to Live Oak Classical School; and
WHEREAS, With its runner-up finish, the team advanced to the
Texas High School Mock Trial Competition in Dallas for the second
consecutive year; there, Midway continued to perform well, narrowly
missing out on the semifinals and finishing in fifth place overall
out of 28 teams; and
WHEREAS, The members of the 2015 team are Hannah Johnson,
Katy Lou Neilson, Mollie Deaconson, M. J. Morris, Sami Landon,
Matthew Parsons, Ben Barker, Anthony Hejduk, Sam Richards, and
Riley Gardell; they were ably supported by faculty sponsor Kim
Landon and attorney advisor David Deaconson; and
WHEREAS, These fine young Texans have shown great
determination and skill, and they may indeed look forward to a
future bright with promise; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
Legislature hereby commend the Midway High School mock trial team
on its participation in the Region 12 and state mock trial
competitions and extend to the team's members sincere best wishes
for continued success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
