| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Hector Montoya of Dallas has demonstrated |

| 6 | 7 | | compassion, initiative, and maturity beyond his years by leading an |

| 7 | 8 | | effort to put smoke detectors in the homes of needy families and |

| 8 | 9 | | senior citizens; and |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Hector, who is nine years old, was upset by news |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | about a deadly house fire in Fort Worth that killed a mother and her |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | six-year-old daughter in January 2014; when he learned that the |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | lives might have been saved if the home had been equipped with a |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | smoke detector, he was moved to action; and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Taking $300 he had painstakingly saved in order to |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | buy himself a PlayStation 4 gaming console, Hector instead used the |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | money to purchase smoke detectors, and he accompanied members of |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | the Grand Prairie Fire Department as they installed the detectors |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | in homes around the community; and |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Hector's example led to an online effort that raised |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | more than $7,000, enabling him to buy more smoke detectors to |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | distribute; in addition, other individuals and businesses were |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | motivated to follow his example; and |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Hector Montoya's concern for other people and his |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | willingness to sacrifice in their behalf marks him as an |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | extraordinary young Texan, and he is truly deserving of special |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | recognition for the significant contribution he has made to his |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | community and for the way he has inspired others to do the same; |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | now, therefore, be it |

| 29 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

| 30 | 31 | | Legislature hereby commend Hector Montoya for working to provide |

| 31 | 32 | | smoke detectors for his fellow Texans and extend to him sincere best |
