5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Lieutenant Stuart J. Alexander of the Corpus Christi |

6 | 7 | | Police Department lost his life in the line of duty on March 11, |

7 | 8 | | 2009, and his service and sacrifice will not soon be forgotten; and |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, On that day, a routine traffic stop turned violent |
---|
9 | 10 | | when the driver assaulted the officer who had stopped him and fled |
---|
10 | 11 | | in his vehicle; in an effort to stop the driver with road spikes, |
---|
11 | 12 | | Lieutenant Alexander positioned himself on the shoulder of the |
---|
12 | 13 | | highway some distance ahead, but the driver swerved and fatally |
---|
13 | 14 | | struck him; at the time of his death, Lieutenant Alexander was 47 |
---|
14 | 15 | | years old and a 20-year veteran of the department; he left behind |
---|
15 | 16 | | his wife, his son, and three grandchildren; and |
---|
16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Our state and nation benefit immeasurably from the |

17 | 18 | | courage and commitment of law enforcement professionals such as |

18 | 19 | | Lieutenant Alexander, who willingly put themselves in harm's way |

19 | 20 | | each day to safeguard the lives and property of their fellow |

21 | 22 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
