45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Lieutenant Stuart J. Alexander of the Corpus Christi
67 Police Department lost his life in the line of duty on March 11,
78 2009, and his service and sacrifice will not soon be forgotten; and
89 WHEREAS, On that day, a routine traffic stop turned violent
910 when the driver assaulted the officer who had stopped him and fled
1011 in his vehicle; in an effort to stop the driver with road spikes,
1112 Lieutenant Alexander positioned himself on the shoulder of the
1213 highway some distance ahead, but the driver swerved and fatally
1314 struck him; at the time of his death, Lieutenant Alexander was 47
1415 years old and a 20-year veteran of the department; he left behind
1516 his wife, his son, and three grandchildren; and
1617 WHEREAS, Our state and nation benefit immeasurably from the
1718 courage and commitment of law enforcement professionals such as
1819 Lieutenant Alexander, who willingly put themselves in harm's way
1920 each day to safeguard the lives and property of their fellow
2021 citizens; now, therefore, be it
2122 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
2223 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life and exemplary service of
2324 Lieutenant Stuart J. Alexander of the Corpus Christi Police
2425 Department.
