 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Lieutenant Stuart J. Alexander of the Corpus Christi
 Police Department lost his life in the line of duty on March 11,
 2009, and his service and sacrifice will not soon be forgotten; and
 WHEREAS, On that day, a routine traffic stop turned violent
 when the driver assaulted the officer who had stopped him and fled
 in his vehicle; in an effort to stop the driver with road spikes,
 Lieutenant Alexander positioned himself on the shoulder of the
 highway some distance ahead, but the driver swerved and fatally
 struck him; at the time of his death, Lieutenant Alexander was 47
 years old and a 20-year veteran of the department; he left behind
 his wife, his son, and three grandchildren; and
 WHEREAS, Our state and nation benefit immeasurably from the
 courage and commitment of law enforcement professionals such as
 Lieutenant Alexander, who willingly put themselves in harm's way
 each day to safeguard the lives and property of their fellow
 citizens; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life and exemplary service of
 Lieutenant Stuart J. Alexander of the Corpus Christi Police
 Department.
