H.R. No. 1733 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, St. Francis de Sales Catholic School in Houston is commemorating the 50th anniversary of its founding with a celebration on April 12, 2015; and WHEREAS, The school held its first classes on September 8, 1964, for children in the first through the sixth grades; following the Dominican education philosophy, St. Francis de Sales Catholic School helps children to become grounded in their faith while encouraging academic excellence and a vibrant sense of community; and WHEREAS, Over the years, St. Francis de Sales has expanded its curriculum while remaining faithful to its established principles, and today it serves approximately 470 students from prekindergarten through eighth grade; in addition to traditional disciplines, the school offers studies in areas such as music, Spanish, and technology; it is also home to a number of sports teams and academic and service organizations, which give students myriad opportunities for enhanced personal development and present parents with occasions for further involvement in their children's lives; and WHEREAS, For five decades, St. Francis de Sales Catholic School has equipped a number of young Texans with a strong educational foundation, and it is indeed fitting that the school be recognized at this point in its rich history; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas Legislature hereby commemorate the 50th anniversary of St. Francis de Sales Catholic School and extend to its administrators, faculty, staff, and students sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
