5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends will long cherish their memories |

6 | 7 | | of Glendon O. DeZell of Waco, who passed away on March 21, 2015, at |

7 | 8 | | the age of 93; and |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Born on October 12, 1921, Glendon DeZell grew up on a |
---|
9 | 10 | | farm in Leon County; as a teenager, he and his older brother ran the |
---|
10 | 11 | | farm so that his father could work in the Mexia oil fields to |
---|
11 | 12 | | support the family; and |
---|
12 | 13 | | WHEREAS, This patriotic Texan came of age during World War |
---|
13 | 14 | | II, and he served his country in the South Pacific; after retiring |
---|
14 | 15 | | from the navy as a chief petty officer, he went on to enjoy a |
---|
15 | 16 | | successful career in civil service, skillfully repairing aircraft |
---|
16 | 17 | | as a structural mechanic; and |
---|
17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Mr. DeZell gave generously of his time and talents |
---|
18 | 19 | | to his community as a Mason and as a scoutmaster; he was a valued |
---|
19 | 20 | | congregant of Timbercrest Baptist Church of Waco, and his interest |
---|
20 | 21 | | in theology led him to become a Sunday school teacher and an |
---|
21 | 22 | | informal Biblical scholar; and |
---|
22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, For 70 years, Mr. DeZell enjoyed the love and |
---|
23 | 24 | | support of his wife, the former Athalee Hood; he took great pride in |
---|
24 | 25 | | his daughter, Linda, his sons, Glendon and James, and his |
---|
25 | 26 | | grandchildren, Derek, Victoria, James, Adam, Tracilyn, Sayde, and |
---|
26 | 27 | | Cortney; and |
---|
27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, A member of the Greatest Generation, Glendon DeZell |
---|
28 | 29 | | fought courageously in defense of his nation and returned home to |

29 | 30 | | serve his community with equal commitment, and he leaves behind a |

30 | 31 | | record of service that his loved ones can remember with pride; now, |
