45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Family and friends will long cherish their memories
67 of Glendon O. DeZell of Waco, who passed away on March 21, 2015, at
78 the age of 93; and
89 WHEREAS, Born on October 12, 1921, Glendon DeZell grew up on a
910 farm in Leon County; as a teenager, he and his older brother ran the
1011 farm so that his father could work in the Mexia oil fields to
1112 support the family; and
1213 WHEREAS, This patriotic Texan came of age during World War
1314 II, and he served his country in the South Pacific; after retiring
1415 from the navy as a chief petty officer, he went on to enjoy a
1516 successful career in civil service, skillfully repairing aircraft
1617 as a structural mechanic; and
1718 WHEREAS, Mr. DeZell gave generously of his time and talents
1819 to his community as a Mason and as a scoutmaster; he was a valued
1920 congregant of Timbercrest Baptist Church of Waco, and his interest
2021 in theology led him to become a Sunday school teacher and an
2122 informal Biblical scholar; and
2223 WHEREAS, For 70 years, Mr. DeZell enjoyed the love and
2324 support of his wife, the former Athalee Hood; he took great pride in
2425 his daughter, Linda, his sons, Glendon and James, and his
2526 grandchildren, Derek, Victoria, James, Adam, Tracilyn, Sayde, and
2627 Cortney; and
2728 WHEREAS, A member of the Greatest Generation, Glendon DeZell
2829 fought courageously in defense of his nation and returned home to
2930 serve his community with equal commitment, and he leaves behind a
3031 record of service that his loved ones can remember with pride; now,
3132 therefore, be it
3233 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
3334 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Glendon DeZell and
3435 extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife,
3536 Athalee Hood DeZell; to his sons, Glendon Bruce DeZell and James
3637 DeZell and his wife, Sheri; to his daughter, Linda Hall, and her
3738 husband, Dicky; to his grandchildren, Derek DeZell and his wife,
3839 Shelbie, Victoria DeZell and her husband, Andre Robbins, James
3940 Matthew DeZell, Adam Hall and his wife, Kristin, Dr. Tracilyn Hall,
4041 Sayde Carlsen, and Cortney Carlsen; to his great-grandchildren; to
4142 his sister, Datha Crutchfield; to his sister-in-law, Wilma Wilson,
4243 and her husband, Seth; and to his other relatives and many friends;
4344 and, be it further
4445 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4546 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4647 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in honor of Glendon O.
