H.R. No. 1758 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Family and friends will long cherish their memories of Glendon O. DeZell of Waco, who passed away on March 21, 2015, at the age of 93; and WHEREAS, Born on October 12, 1921, Glendon DeZell grew up on a farm in Leon County; as a teenager, he and his older brother ran the farm so that his father could work in the Mexia oil fields to support the family; and WHEREAS, This patriotic Texan came of age during World War II, and he served his country in the South Pacific; after retiring from the navy as a chief petty officer, he went on to enjoy a successful career in civil service, skillfully repairing aircraft as a structural mechanic; and WHEREAS, Mr. DeZell gave generously of his time and talents to his community as a Mason and as a scoutmaster; he was a valued congregant of Timbercrest Baptist Church of Waco, and his interest in theology led him to become a Sunday school teacher and an informal Biblical scholar; and WHEREAS, For 70 years, Mr. DeZell enjoyed the love and support of his wife, the former Athalee Hood; he took great pride in his daughter, Linda, his sons, Glendon and James, and his grandchildren, Derek, Victoria, James, Adam, Tracilyn, Sayde, and Cortney; and WHEREAS, A member of the Greatest Generation, Glendon DeZell fought courageously in defense of his nation and returned home to serve his community with equal commitment, and he leaves behind a record of service that his loved ones can remember with pride; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Glendon DeZell and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Athalee Hood DeZell; to his sons, Glendon Bruce DeZell and James DeZell and his wife, Sheri; to his daughter, Linda Hall, and her husband, Dicky; to his grandchildren, Derek DeZell and his wife, Shelbie, Victoria DeZell and her husband, Andre Robbins, James Matthew DeZell, Adam Hall and his wife, Kristin, Dr. Tracilyn Hall, Sayde Carlsen, and Cortney Carlsen; to his great-grandchildren; to his sister, Datha Crutchfield; to his sister-in-law, Wilma Wilson, and her husband, Seth; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in honor of Glendon O.
