H.R. No. 1778 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Cheyenne Kennedy of Livingston High School proved herself one of the top Texas high school athletes in her sport by winning the 5A title in the 220+ division at the 2015 Texas High School Women's Powerlifting Association State Meet, held on March 20 and 21 in Corpus Christi; and WHEREAS, A senior competing at the state meet for the fourth consecutive year, Ms. Kennedy claimed the 5A crown in her weight class by tallying 1,230 pounds; her total included lifts of 300 pounds in the bench press and 510 in the squat, which were tops for her division at the meet, as well as 420 pounds in the deadlift; and WHEREAS, Ms. Kennedy qualified for state with a triumphant performance at the Region 4 Division 1 competition in Beaumont on February 26, where she compiled 1,270 total pounds and earned Outstanding Lifter and Outstanding Bench Press honors; her victories during 2015 have closed out an exceptional high school career in which she has set school and state records in a number of lifting categories, and she hopes to continue her powerlifting career at the collegiate level; and WHEREAS, Through long hours of training and an undeniable will to win, Cheyenne Kennedy has claimed the mantle of state champion, and her accomplishment is a source of great pride to her school and her many supporters in the community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Cheyenne Kennedy on winning the Texas High School Women's Powerlifting Association 5A state championship in the 220+ weight class and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Kennedy as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
