H.R. No. 1779
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Colten Smith of Kountze High School distinguished
himself with his powerlifting achievements during 2015, earning a
trip to the Texas High School Powerlifting Association State Meet;
and
WHEREAS, In order to qualify for state, an athlete must prove
his abilities at the regional meet by finishing in first or second
place in his division or by lifting a specified total weight; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Smith competed in the Region 4 Division 3
competition, held on March 7 in Cleveland, Texas; he took home
runner-up honors in the 123-pound weight class, completing lifts of
305 pounds in the squat, 190 pounds in the bench press, and 395
pounds in the deadlift to secure his spot in the field at the THSPA
State Meet with a total weight of 890 pounds; and
WHEREAS, Demonstrating hard work and unwavering
determination to achieve his goals, Colten Smith has claimed a
place among the elite young weight lifters in the Lone Star State,
and he may indeed take pride in his outstanding accomplishments;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Colten Smith on qualifying for the
Texas High School Powerlifting Association State Meet and extend to
him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Smith as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
