45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Grant Teaff is retiring as the executive director of
67 the American Football Coaches Association in 2016, after more than
78 two decades of exemplary service; and
89 WHEREAS, During his notable career as a college coach, Grant
910 Teaff served as an assistant coach at Texas Tech University and as a
1011 head coach at McMurry College and Angelo State University before
1112 taking over as head coach at Baylor University in 1972; he led the
1213 Bears to new levels of success on the gridiron over the next 20
1314 years, winning a number of prestigious accolades and capturing
1415 multiple conference championships; by the time he retired in 1992,
1516 he was the school's all-time leader in football victories; and
1617 WHEREAS, Coach Teaff became executive director of the AFCA in
1718 1994, and under his direction, the organization has expanded its
1819 membership and excelled in its goal of addressing important issues
1920 affecting football coaches and the sport of college football; he
2021 has worked diligently in behalf of all AFCA coaches, expanding the
2122 group's board of trustees to ensure fair representation and
2223 advocating for a larger role for assistant and minority coaches; he
2324 has made student-athlete safety a critical part of the group's
2425 efforts, and he has contributed to the ongoing educational and
2526 personal development of AFCA members by establishing the American
2627 Football Coaches Foundation; and
2728 WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan is highly respected for his
2829 knowledge about a wide range of topics relating to college
2930 football, and he has served as a member of the board for the
3031 National Football Foundation College Football Hall of Fame, USA
3132 Football, and the National Operating Committee on Standards for
3233 Athletic Equipment; moreover, he volunteers his time and talents to
3334 benefit the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, serving as a guest
3435 speaker and raising funds for the organization; and
3536 WHEREAS, Grant Teaff's expertise and passion for the game of
3637 football have greatly benefited the AFCA and earned him the
3738 admiration of his fellow coaches, and he may reflect with
3839 satisfaction on all that he has achieved as he looks ahead to the
3940 next exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it
4041 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
4142 Legislature hereby congratulate Grant Teaff on his retirement as
4243 executive director of the American Football Coaches Association and
4344 extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
4445 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4546 prepared for Coach Teaff as an expression of high regard by the
4647 Texas House of Representatives.
