5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Grant Teaff is retiring as the executive director of |

6 | 7 | | the American Football Coaches Association in 2016, after more than |

7 | 8 | | two decades of exemplary service; and |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, During his notable career as a college coach, Grant |
---|
9 | 10 | | Teaff served as an assistant coach at Texas Tech University and as a |
---|
10 | 11 | | head coach at McMurry College and Angelo State University before |
---|
11 | 12 | | taking over as head coach at Baylor University in 1972; he led the |
---|
12 | 13 | | Bears to new levels of success on the gridiron over the next 20 |
---|
13 | 14 | | years, winning a number of prestigious accolades and capturing |
---|
14 | 15 | | multiple conference championships; by the time he retired in 1992, |
---|
15 | 16 | | he was the school's all-time leader in football victories; and |
---|
16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Coach Teaff became executive director of the AFCA in |
---|
17 | 18 | | 1994, and under his direction, the organization has expanded its |
---|
18 | 19 | | membership and excelled in its goal of addressing important issues |
---|
19 | 20 | | affecting football coaches and the sport of college football; he |
---|
20 | 21 | | has worked diligently in behalf of all AFCA coaches, expanding the |
---|
21 | 22 | | group's board of trustees to ensure fair representation and |
---|
22 | 23 | | advocating for a larger role for assistant and minority coaches; he |
---|
23 | 24 | | has made student-athlete safety a critical part of the group's |
---|
24 | 25 | | efforts, and he has contributed to the ongoing educational and |
---|
25 | 26 | | personal development of AFCA members by establishing the American |
---|
26 | 27 | | Football Coaches Foundation; and |
---|
27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan is highly respected for his |
---|
28 | 29 | | knowledge about a wide range of topics relating to college |
---|
29 | 30 | | football, and he has served as a member of the board for the |
---|
30 | 31 | | National Football Foundation College Football Hall of Fame, USA |
---|
31 | 32 | | Football, and the National Operating Committee on Standards for |

32 | 33 | | Athletic Equipment; moreover, he volunteers his time and talents to |
---|
33 | 34 | | benefit the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, serving as a guest |

34 | 35 | | speaker and raising funds for the organization; and |

35 | 36 | | WHEREAS, Grant Teaff's expertise and passion for the game of |

36 | 37 | | football have greatly benefited the AFCA and earned him the |

37 | 38 | | admiration of his fellow coaches, and he may reflect with |

38 | 39 | | satisfaction on all that he has achieved as he looks ahead to the |

39 | 40 | | next exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it |

40 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

41 | 42 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Grant Teaff on his retirement as |
