H.R. No. 1946 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Grant Teaff is retiring as the executive director of the American Football Coaches Association in 2016, after more than two decades of exemplary service; and WHEREAS, During his notable career as a college coach, Grant Teaff served as an assistant coach at Texas Tech University and as a head coach at McMurry College and Angelo State University before taking over as head coach at Baylor University in 1972; he led the Bears to new levels of success on the gridiron over the next 20 years, winning a number of prestigious accolades and capturing multiple conference championships; by the time he retired in 1992, he was the school's all-time leader in football victories; and WHEREAS, Coach Teaff became executive director of the AFCA in 1994, and under his direction, the organization has expanded its membership and excelled in its goal of addressing important issues affecting football coaches and the sport of college football; he has worked diligently in behalf of all AFCA coaches, expanding the group's board of trustees to ensure fair representation and advocating for a larger role for assistant and minority coaches; he has made student-athlete safety a critical part of the group's efforts, and he has contributed to the ongoing educational and personal development of AFCA members by establishing the American Football Coaches Foundation; and WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan is highly respected for his knowledge about a wide range of topics relating to college football, and he has served as a member of the board for the National Football Foundation College Football Hall of Fame, USA Football, and the National Operating Committee on Standards for Athletic Equipment; moreover, he volunteers his time and talents to benefit the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, serving as a guest speaker and raising funds for the organization; and WHEREAS, Grant Teaff's expertise and passion for the game of football have greatly benefited the AFCA and earned him the admiration of his fellow coaches, and he may reflect with satisfaction on all that he has achieved as he looks ahead to the next exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Grant Teaff on his retirement as executive director of the American Football Coaches Association and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Coach Teaff as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
