| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, St. Monica Catholic School in Dallas is celebrating |

| 6 | 7 | | the 60th anniversary of its opening in 2015, and this significant |

| 7 | 8 | | milestone offers a welcome opportunity to honor the school for its |

| 8 | 9 | | commitment to providing excellent academic and spiritual |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | education; and |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Established in February 1954, St. Monica opened in |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | the fall of 1955 with 516 students and a staff composed of 5 lay |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | teachers and 11 members of the Bernadine Sisters; over the past six |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | decades, the school has helped to educate thousands of young Texans |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | from across North Dallas while making important contributions to |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | worthy causes within the local community; and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Today, St. Monica offers an outstanding education |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | to more than 800 students in preschool, elementary, and junior high |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | classes, nurturing not only their academic growth but also their |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | moral, social, and physical development; this exemplary |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | institution is ably guided by principal Philip Riley, who is the |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | 2015 recipient of the Distinguished Principal Award from the |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | National Catholic Educational Association; and |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, St. Monica has been named a Blue Ribbon School of |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | Excellence, and the school has received accreditation from both the |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | Texas Catholic Conference Education Department and the Southern |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | School Improvement; and |

| 28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Each year, St. Monica sends a delegation of students |

| 29 | 30 | | to Austin to enhance their understanding of state government; |

| 30 | 31 | | during the 84th Legislative Session in 2015, 87 seventh-graders |

| 31 | 32 | | from teacher Allison Tremblay's class visited the State Capitol to |

| 32 | 33 | | learn more about the legislative process; and |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | WHEREAS, For more than six decades, the faculty and staff of |

| 34 | 35 | | St. Monica Catholic School have committed themselves to meeting the |
|---|
| 35 | 36 | | educational needs of their students, and the school has played a |
|---|
| 36 | 37 | | vital role in helping many children build a bright and fulfilling |

| 38 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

| 39 | 40 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the 60th anniversary of St. Monica |
