 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, St. Monica Catholic School in Dallas is celebrating
 the 60th anniversary of its opening in 2015, and this significant
 milestone offers a welcome opportunity to honor the school for its
 commitment to providing excellent academic and spiritual
 education; and
 WHEREAS, Established in February 1954, St. Monica opened in
 the fall of 1955 with 516 students and a staff composed of 5 lay
 teachers and 11 members of the Bernadine Sisters; over the past six
 decades, the school has helped to educate thousands of young Texans
 from across North Dallas while making important contributions to
 worthy causes within the local community; and
 WHEREAS, Today, St. Monica offers an outstanding education
 to more than 800 students in preschool, elementary, and junior high
 classes, nurturing not only their academic growth but also their
 moral, social, and physical development; this exemplary
 institution is ably guided by principal Philip Riley, who is the
 2015 recipient of the Distinguished Principal Award from the
 National Catholic Educational Association; and
 WHEREAS, St. Monica has been named a Blue Ribbon School of
 Excellence, and the school has received accreditation from both the
 Texas Catholic Conference Education Department and the Southern
 Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and
 School Improvement; and
 WHEREAS, Each year, St. Monica sends a delegation of students
 to Austin to enhance their understanding of state government;
 during the 84th Legislative Session in 2015, 87 seventh-graders
 from teacher Allison Tremblay's class visited the State Capitol to
 learn more about the legislative process; and
 WHEREAS, For more than six decades, the faculty and staff of
 St. Monica Catholic School have committed themselves to meeting the
 educational needs of their students, and the school has played a
 vital role in helping many children build a bright and fulfilling
 future; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
 Legislature hereby commemorate the 60th anniversary of St. Monica
 Catholic School and extend to all those associated with the school
 sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
