5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, World War II veteran C. Wayne Nance of Waco has been |

6 | 7 | | featured in the Waco Tribune-Herald as one of its Voices of Valor; |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Born in Big Spring in 1920, Mr. Nance was married to |
---|
9 | 10 | | Billye Todd on December 7, 1941, the same day that the Japanese |
---|
10 | 11 | | attacked Pearl Harbor; he was drafted into the U.S. Army, and after |
---|
11 | 12 | | training in Georgia, he shipped out of Boston with the 670th Field |
---|
12 | 13 | | Artillery in 1944 to join the war in Europe; and |
---|
13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Nance served as his captain's radio operator, |
---|
14 | 15 | | and he was often tasked with tracking down extra gasoline as well as |
---|
15 | 16 | | ammunition for the battalion's 155mm howitzers; he and his comrades |
---|
16 | 17 | | took part in the Battle of the Bulge in the Ardennes Forest, and |
---|
17 | 18 | | they later marched into Germany; he received his honorable |
---|
18 | 19 | | discharge in 1946; and |
---|
19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Returning to Texas, Mr. Nance worked in the oil |
---|
20 | 21 | | industry for a time until he was called to the ministry; he attended |
---|
21 | 22 | | a seminary and went on to become the pastor of churches in Big |
---|
22 | 23 | | Spring, Albuquerque, Houston, and other communities before |
---|
23 | 24 | | retiring to Waco in 1991; and |
---|
24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Through his bravery and great dedication, Mr. Nance |
---|
25 | 26 | | fulfilled the highest ideals of the United States armed forces, and |
---|
26 | 27 | | his fellow citizens owe him a lasting debt of gratitude; now, |
---|
27 | 28 | | therefore, be it |

28 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

29 | 30 | | Legislature hereby honor C. Wayne Nance for his exemplary service |

30 | 31 | | to his country as a member of the United States Army and |

31 | 32 | | congratulate him on his recognition as one of the Voices of Valor by |
