H.R. No. 2233 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, World War II veteran C. Wayne Nance of Waco has been featured in the Waco Tribune-Herald as one of its Voices of Valor; and WHEREAS, Born in Big Spring in 1920, Mr. Nance was married to Billye Todd on December 7, 1941, the same day that the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor; he was drafted into the U.S. Army, and after training in Georgia, he shipped out of Boston with the 670th Field Artillery in 1944 to join the war in Europe; and WHEREAS, Mr. Nance served as his captain's radio operator, and he was often tasked with tracking down extra gasoline as well as ammunition for the battalion's 155mm howitzers; he and his comrades took part in the Battle of the Bulge in the Ardennes Forest, and they later marched into Germany; he received his honorable discharge in 1946; and WHEREAS, Returning to Texas, Mr. Nance worked in the oil industry for a time until he was called to the ministry; he attended a seminary and went on to become the pastor of churches in Big Spring, Albuquerque, Houston, and other communities before retiring to Waco in 1991; and WHEREAS, Through his bravery and great dedication, Mr. Nance fulfilled the highest ideals of the United States armed forces, and his fellow citizens owe him a lasting debt of gratitude; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas Legislature hereby honor C. Wayne Nance for his exemplary service to his country as a member of the United States Army and congratulate him on his recognition as one of the Voices of Valor by the Waco Tribune-Herald; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Nance as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
