5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A devoted couple whose lives were enhanced by a |

6 | 7 | | great and enduring love, Helen and Manuel Chapa left this world only |

7 | 8 | | nine days apart after 72 rewarding years together; and |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Residents of Corpus Christi, Mr. and Mrs. Chapa |

9 | 10 | | raised a loving family that included their children, Mary, Edward, |

10 | 11 | | Manuel, and Susie, and they were further blessed with the affection |

11 | 12 | | of 10 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 2 |

12 | 13 | | great-great-grandchildren; and |
---|
13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Helen Chapa was born on August 18, 1927, in |
---|
14 | 15 | | Brownsville to Audelio Olivares and Susana Garza; kind and |
---|
15 | 16 | | compassionate, she worked as a nurse at Memorial Hospital in |
---|
16 | 17 | | addition to caring for her loved ones; she passed away on April 1, |

17 | 18 | | 2015, at the age of 87; and |
---|
18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Born on October 30, 1923, Manuel Chapa served his |
---|
19 | 20 | | country in the United States Army during World War II and went on to |
---|
20 | 21 | | forge a successful career as an 18-wheeler driver and instructor; |
---|
21 | 22 | | he found fulfillment in providing for his growing family, and he |
---|
22 | 23 | | served as a role model to them by abiding by his two guiding |
---|
23 | 24 | | principles, to never judge others and to always help those in need; |
---|
24 | 25 | | Mr. Chapa passed away on April 10, 2015, at the age of 91; and |
---|
25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Throughout their seven decades of marriage, Mr. and |
---|
26 | 27 | | Mrs. Chapa set an inspiring example of dedication to their family |
---|
27 | 28 | | and to each other, and they will forever be remembered with |
---|
28 | 29 | | tenderness and admiration; now, therefore, be it |

29 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

30 | 31 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the lives of Manuel and Helen |
