H.R. No. 2395
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Joseph Afuso, an eighth grade student at Bishop
Garriga Middle Preparatory School in Corpus Christi, earned first
place at the state competition of the National Geographic Bee on
March 27, 2015; and
WHEREAS, Each year at thousands of schools across the nation,
students in the fourth through eighth grades study land formations,
bodies of water, populations, and other global features to compete
in state geography bees; using materials from the National
Geographic Society, the contest strives to stimulate students'
curiosity about the world; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Afuso bested more than 100 other young Texans at
the competition in Bedford; he will join winners from throughout
the country in Washington, D.C., for the national championship
taking place in May; and
WHEREAS, Through his participation in this challenging
event, Joseph Afuso has shown great initiative and ability, and he
may indeed look forward to a future bright with promise; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Joseph Afuso on winning the state
competition of the 2015 National Geographic Bee and extend to him
sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Afuso as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
