| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Attorney and community leader Derrick Mitchell of |

| 6 | 7 | | Houston has been appointed by Governor Greg Abbott to the Board of |

| 7 | 8 | | Regents of Texas Southern University; and |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Mitchell will serve as one of the nine regents |

| 9 | 10 | | of TSU, one of the most diverse institutions of higher learning in |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | Texas, with more than 9,700 graduate and undergraduate students |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | from around the world; Mr. Mitchell's six-year term will end in |

| 12 | 13 | | February 2021; and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Since earning his bachelor's degree in finance from |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | the University of Houston and his law degree from the University of |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | Houston Law Center, Derrick Mitchell has enjoyed a successful |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | career as an attorney; he is a partner in the public law section of |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | the Houston office of Bracewell and Giuliani LLP, where he works as |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | a bond counsel, disclosure counsel, and underwriter's counsel; he |

| 19 | 20 | | also has an extensive background in corporate and business |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | transactions; and |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, In addition to his professional responsibilities, |

| 22 | 23 | | Mr. Mitchell serves as board counsel to a number of community |

| 23 | 24 | | colleges, and he is a member of the executive committee of the |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | Houston chapter of the National Black MBA Association as well as a |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | board member of Scenic Houston, Row House Community Development |

| 26 | 27 | | Corporation, and Harris County Improvement District No. 8; he has |

| 27 | 28 | | previously served as chair of the Greater Houston Partnership Local |

| 28 | 29 | | Relations Committee and as a member of the Texas Securities Board; |
