45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life came to a close with the
67 passing of Noe G. Contreras of Corpus Christi on April 17, 2015, at
78 the age of 89; and
89 WHEREAS, Noe Contreras was born to Donaciano and Maria Del
910 Refugio Gonzalez Contreras in Riviera on October 22, 1925, and he
1011 grew up in Chapman Ranch as one of 10 siblings; and
1112 WHEREAS, Coming of age during World War II, Mr. Contreras
1213 possessed the courage and initiative that defined the Greatest
1314 Generation; he started basic training at 17 years old at Ft.
1415 McClellan in Alabama and went on to attend advanced infantry
1516 training at Ft. Benning in Georgia; fighting bravely on the Western
1617 Front as a member of the 75th Infantry Division, he was wounded
1718 during the Battle of the Bulge and was eventually discharged at Fort
1819 Sam Houston in 1946; and
1920 WHEREAS, In recognition of his outstanding valor, he received
2021 the Combat Infantryman Badge, three Purple Hearts, the
2122 European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, and the Good
2223 Conduct Medal; he was an at-large member of the Department of Texas
2324 Veterans of Foreign Wars and a lifetime member of Disabled American
2425 Veterans in Corpus Christi; and
2526 WHEREAS, Mr. Contreras moved to the Molina neighborhood in
2627 Corpus Christi in 1955; there, he enjoyed a rewarding family life
2728 with his wife, Alicia, and his three children, Rolando, Hope, and
2829 Esmeralda; with the passing years, he had the pleasure of seeing his
2930 family grow to include 6 grandchildren, Sue, Ali, Angela, Andrea,
3031 Eric, and Olympia, as well as 14 great-grandchildren and a
3132 great-great-grandchild; and
3233 WHEREAS, A distinguished veteran and a devoted family man,
3334 Noe Contreras touched many lives during his journey on this earth,
3435 and those who shared in his warmth and affection will long hold him
3536 close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it
3637 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
3738 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Noe G. Contreras and
3839 extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife,
3940 Alicia R. Contreras; to his son, Rolando Contreras, and his wife,
4041 Karen; to his daughters, Esperanza "Hope" Contreras and Esmeralda
4142 Barrientes and her husband, Manuel; to his grandchildren, Sue Ocuto
4243 and her husband, Jim, Ali Rengifo and her husband, Miguel, Angela
4344 and Andrea De La Garza, Eric De La Garza and his wife, Violet, and
4445 Olympia Garcia and her husband, Mike; to his 14 great-grandchildren
4546 and his great-great-grandchild; to his brothers, Ruben Contreras
4647 and his wife, Irene, and Juan Contreras and his wife, Corina; and to
4748 his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further
4849 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4950 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
5051 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Noe
5152 G. Contreras.
