| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Diana R. Garland has deservedly been recognized by |

| 6 | 7 | | the board of trustees of Baylor University with the renaming of the |
|---|
| 7 | 8 | | institution's School of Social Work in her honor; and |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Garland joined the Baylor College of Arts and |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | Sciences faculty as a professor of social work in 1997; in 1999, the |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | program became a separate department, and she served as chair for |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | four years before being named the inaugural dean of the newly |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | established School of Social Work in 2005; and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, In that important position, Ms. Garland has |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | overseen many impressive developments, including the expansion of |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | the full-time faculty from 5 to 20 members, the creation of a Ph.D. |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | program, and the relocation of the school to its own building in |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | downtown Waco; moreover, the school was recognized in the 2012 list |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | of the Best Graduate Schools published by U.S. News & World Report, |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | and in the fall of 2015, it is opening a Houston campus, which will |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | offer a master of social work degree; and |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Garland is concluding her notable tenure as dean |

| 22 | 23 | | on June 1, 2015, at which time she will resume her role as a faculty |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | member; and |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Through her leadership, vision, and dedication, |

| 25 | 26 | | Ms. Garland has significantly benefited the Baylor School of Social |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | Work, and she has earned the lasting respect and admiration of |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | colleagues, faculty, and students alike; now, therefore, be it |

| 28 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

| 29 | 30 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Diana R. Garland on having the |

| 30 | 31 | | Baylor University Diana R. Garland School of Social Work named in |
