5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, World War II veteran Ervin Davis of Waco has been |

6 | 7 | | featured in the Waco Tribune-Herald as one of its Voices of Valor; |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, A native of Pearl, Ervin Davis was drafted into the |
---|
9 | 10 | | U.S. Army along with his twin brother, Erwin, after graduating high |
---|
10 | 11 | | school; the brothers completed basic training together in Tyler and |
---|
11 | 12 | | then underwent advanced training in South Carolina to become a |
---|
12 | 13 | | two-man bazooka team; they subsequently joined the 89th Infantry |
---|
13 | 14 | | Division in General Patton's 3rd Army and were deployed to France; |
---|
14 | 15 | | their unit soon infiltrated Germany and saw action in several |
---|
15 | 16 | | battles before the war in Europe came to an end; the brothers went |
---|
16 | 17 | | on to serve with the 8th Division and then the 5th Division, and |
---|
17 | 18 | | they were awaiting deployment to the Pacific theater when the war |
---|
18 | 19 | | ended; and |

19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, After returning to civilian life, Ervin Davis began |

20 | 21 | | working as a barber at Baylor University in 1955, beginning a |

21 | 22 | | fulfilling career that spanned 56 years; he garnered the admiration |

22 | 23 | | and friendship of generations of customers, and though he retired |
---|
23 | 24 | | from the university in 2011, he continues to cut hair part-time at a |
---|
24 | 25 | | different shop in Waco; and |

25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Through his bravery and great dedication, Ervin |

26 | 27 | | Davis fulfilled the highest ideals of the United States armed |
---|
27 | 28 | | forces, and his fellow citizens owe him a lasting debt of gratitude; |

28 | 29 | | now, therefore, be it |

29 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

30 | 31 | | Legislature hereby honor Ervin Davis for his exemplary service to |

31 | 32 | | his country as a member of the United States Army and congratulate |

32 | 33 | | him on his recognition as one of the Voices of Valor by the Waco |
