H.R. No. 2736
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, World War II veteran Ervin Davis of Waco has been
featured in the Waco Tribune-Herald as one of its Voices of Valor;
and
WHEREAS, A native of Pearl, Ervin Davis was drafted into the
U.S. Army along with his twin brother, Erwin, after graduating high
school; the brothers completed basic training together in Tyler and
then underwent advanced training in South Carolina to become a
two-man bazooka team; they subsequently joined the 89th Infantry
Division in General Patton's 3rd Army and were deployed to France;
their unit soon infiltrated Germany and saw action in several
battles before the war in Europe came to an end; the brothers went
on to serve with the 8th Division and then the 5th Division, and
they were awaiting deployment to the Pacific theater when the war
ended; and
WHEREAS, After returning to civilian life, Ervin Davis began
working as a barber at Baylor University in 1955, beginning a
fulfilling career that spanned 56 years; he garnered the admiration
and friendship of generations of customers, and though he retired
from the university in 2011, he continues to cut hair part-time at a
different shop in Waco; and
WHEREAS, Through his bravery and great dedication, Ervin
Davis fulfilled the highest ideals of the United States armed
forces, and his fellow citizens owe him a lasting debt of gratitude;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
Legislature hereby honor Ervin Davis for his exemplary service to
his country as a member of the United States Army and congratulate
him on his recognition as one of the Voices of Valor by the Waco
Tribune-Herald; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Davis as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
