R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, John Teague has received the third annual American
Society of Safety Engineers Triangle Award for Heroic Dedication;
and
WHEREAS, Presented by ASSE and the federal Occupational
Safety and Health Administration, the Triangle Award recognizes
occupational safety professionals for exceptional contributions to
the well-being of their fellow employees and to the advancement of
their field; the award was named in tribute to the victims of the
1911 Triangle Shirtwaist factory fire in New York City; and
WHEREAS, Employed by Hughes Oilfield Transportation in
Odessa, John Teague serves as safety manager and OSHA and
Department of Transportation compliance officer; he oversees 150
trucks and drivers daily, and he has implemented an extensive
two-day training program that all the company's prospective drivers
must complete; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Teague performs field audits on all drivers and
equipment, and he conducts driving tests and ride-alongs; his
outstanding leadership has brought Hughes two consecutive safety
awards from Texas Mutual; moreover, he serves on the board of the
West Texas Safety Training Center, and he is a member of the ASSE
Permian Basin Chapter; and
WHEREAS, Benefiting the greater community as well,
Mr. Teague has worked tirelessly outside of the workplace to
promote safe driving; he and his wife, Shannon, lost their son,
Dustin, to an automobile accident caused by distracted driving, and
they have traveled across the state to share their personal
tragedy, highlighting the deadly consequences of inattention at the
wheel; and
WHEREAS, The Teagues frequently organize distracted driving
awareness events, and in 2015, they advocated before the Texas
Legislature for a ban on cell phone use while driving; in addition,
they have spoken on the topic at the annual meeting of the West
Texas Safety Training Center and at monthly meetings of the Permian
Basin Service, Transmission, Exploration, and Production Safety
Network; and
WHEREAS, John Teague has devoted himself to keeping others
safe from harm, and he has earned the respect of his colleagues and
the deep admiration of all who are fortunate enough to know him;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate John Teague on his receipt of the
2015 ASSE Triangle Award and extend to him sincere best wishes for
continued success in his vital endeavors; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Teague as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
