5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Charles Hardy retired from Austin Industries in |

6 | 7 | | December 2014, after an outstanding tenure with the company that |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Hardy managed the legal affairs of one of the |
---|
9 | 10 | | largest general contractors in the nation as general counsel for |

10 | 11 | | Austin Industries; an expert in contract drafting and negotiation, |
---|
11 | 12 | | he was responsible for many commercial, transportation, and |
---|
12 | 13 | | industrial construction projects; he also helped develop the Zero |
---|
13 | 14 | | Claim Project, a program designed to detect and prevent issues in |
---|
14 | 15 | | order to minimize losses, claims, and litigation; and |
---|
15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, For more than a quarter-century, this esteemed Texan |
---|
16 | 17 | | mediated construction disputes as a member of the American |
---|
17 | 18 | | Arbitration Association Panel of Construction Arbitrators; among |
---|
18 | 19 | | the other organizations to benefit from his interest were the |
---|
19 | 20 | | Associated General Contractors of America and the Construction |
---|
20 | 21 | | Industry Ethics and Compliance Initiative; following his work with |
---|
21 | 22 | | Austin Industries, he became of counsel to the construction law |
---|
22 | 23 | | firm Slates Harwell; and |
---|
23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Respected and admired by his colleagues, Mr. Hardy |
---|
24 | 25 | | received the Robert H. Dedman Award for Ethics and Law from the |
---|
25 | 26 | | General Counsel Forum in 2013; he holds a bachelor of arts degree |
---|
26 | 27 | | from The University of Texas at Austin as well as a juris doctor |
---|
27 | 28 | | degree from St. Mary's University School of Law; and |
---|
28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Charles Hardy has |
---|
29 | 30 | | distinguished himself through his dedication, professionalism, and |
---|
30 | 31 | | commitment to excellence, and he may indeed reflect with pride on |
---|
31 | 32 | | his many accomplishments; now, therefore, be it |
---|
32 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
---|
33 | 34 | | Legislature hereby honor Charles Hardy for his 35 years of service |
---|
34 | 35 | | to Austin Industries and extend to him sincere best wishes for the |
