5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Amber Moffitt of the Grand Prairie Independent |

7 | 8 | | D.C., as a semifinalist in the 2015 American School Counselor |

8 | 9 | | Association Counselor of the Year competition; and |
---|
9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, The lead counselor for the Young Men's Leadership |
---|
10 | 11 | | Academy at Kennedy Middle School, Ms. Moffitt was previously |
---|
11 | 12 | | selected as Middle School Counselor of the Year by the Texas |
---|
12 | 13 | | Counseling Association, which nominated her for the ASCA award; she |
---|
13 | 14 | | joined the YMLA faculty in 2012, having previously served as a |
---|
14 | 15 | | counselor at Fannin Middle School; and |
---|
15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Moffitt joined the district in 2006 as a |
---|
16 | 17 | | kindergarten teacher at David Daniels Elementary Academy, and while |
---|
17 | 18 | | serving in that capacity, she received her master's degree in |
---|
18 | 19 | | school counseling from Dallas Baptist University; she also gained |
---|
19 | 20 | | valuable experience as a counselor for the Grand Prairie Parks and |
---|
20 | 21 | | Recreation S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Project; and |
---|
21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, A graduate of Grand Prairie High School, Ms. Moffitt |
---|
22 | 23 | | completed her bachelor's degree at the University of Houston, and |
---|
23 | 24 | | she is currently pursuing a doctorate in K-16 educational |
---|
24 | 25 | | leadership and policy studies at The University of Texas at |
---|
25 | 26 | | Arlington; she is the recipient of a Gates Millennium Scholarship, |
---|
26 | 27 | | and her accolades include the 2014 Dallas Baptist University |
---|
27 | 28 | | College of Education Distinguished Alumnus Award and the Dallas |
---|
28 | 29 | | Urban Professionals Top 40 under 40 Educator Award; and |
---|
29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Amber Moffitt has demonstrated an exceptional |

30 | 31 | | commitment to helping young Texans reach their fullest potential, |

31 | 32 | | and in so doing, she has earned the respect and admiration of her |
---|
32 | 33 | | colleagues and the appreciation of countless students; now, |

34 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

35 | 36 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Amber Moffitt on her selection as a |
