| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Teaching is a profession that calls for character, |

| 6 | 7 | | passion, and commitment, and Glynn Morgan of The University of |

| 7 | 8 | | Texas--Pan American has demonstrated these qualities in abundance |

| 8 | 9 | | throughout his outstanding 52-year career; and |

| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, This esteemed educator began his work at UTPA as an |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | instructor in 1963; he was named an assistant professor in 1966, and |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | he achieved the rank of associate professor in 1971; in addition to |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | his duties with the department of political science, he has served |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | as director of a number of programs, including placement and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | testing, federal work-study, and student activities; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, In 2000, Mr. Morgan was honored with a UTPA |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | Outstanding Faculty Award for Teaching, and in 2001, he received |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | the Distinguished Professor Award from the alumni association; he |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | established the Glynn and Rene Morgan Endowed Scholarship to |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | provide merit-based assistance for the university's top political |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | science students and to honor the memory of his beloved wife; and |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Morgan attended the University of Mississippi, |

| 22 | 23 | | where he earned a bachelor's degree in English and German in 1960 |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | and a master's degree in political science in 1962; he participated |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | in additional graduate studies in political science at The |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | University of Texas at Austin and in university administration at |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | Colorado State University and the University of Colorado at |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | Boulder; and |

| 28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, The influence of a teacher extends far beyond the |

| 29 | 30 | | walls of the classroom, and Glynn Morgan has worked to instill in |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | his students a lifelong love of learning and a commitment to |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | excellence that will serve them well in every aspect of their lives; |

| 33 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

| 34 | 35 | | Legislature recognize Professor Glynn Morgan for 52 years of |
