 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Teaching is a profession that calls for character,
 passion, and commitment, and Glynn Morgan of The University of
 Texas--Pan American has demonstrated these qualities in abundance
 throughout his outstanding 52-year career; and
 WHEREAS, This esteemed educator began his work at UTPA as an
 instructor in 1963; he was named an assistant professor in 1966, and
 he achieved the rank of associate professor in 1971; in addition to
 his duties with the department of political science, he has served
 as director of a number of programs, including placement and
 testing, federal work-study, and student activities; and
 WHEREAS, In 2000, Mr. Morgan was honored with a UTPA
 Outstanding Faculty Award for Teaching, and in 2001, he received
 the Distinguished Professor Award from the alumni association; he
 established the Glynn and Rene Morgan Endowed Scholarship to
 provide merit-based assistance for the university's top political
 science students and to honor the memory of his beloved wife; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Morgan attended the University of Mississippi,
 where he earned a bachelor's degree in English and German in 1960
 and a master's degree in political science in 1962; he participated
 in additional graduate studies in political science at The
 University of Texas at Austin and in university administration at
 Colorado State University and the University of Colorado at
 Boulder; and
 WHEREAS, The influence of a teacher extends far beyond the
 walls of the classroom, and Glynn Morgan has worked to instill in
 his students a lifelong love of learning and a commitment to
 excellence that will serve them well in every aspect of their lives;
 now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
 Legislature recognize Professor Glynn Morgan for 52 years of
 dedicated service at The University of Texas--Pan American and
 extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Mr. Morgan as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
