H.R. No. 288 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Robert Sutherland has been named a 2014 Corpus Christi Caller-Times/Citgo South Texas Distinguished Scholar in recognition of his achievements in the Career category; and WHEREAS, The Caller-Times/Citgo South Texas Distinguished Scholars program was established to reward local students who have demonstrated excellence in such areas as academics, athletics, leadership, and community service; since its inception in 1988, some 480 young men and women have been selected for this prestigious honor, with the winners each receiving a stipend to assist with postsecondary education expenses; and WHEREAS, The son of Robert and Marissa Sutherland, Mr. Sutherland is a senior at King High School; aspiring to a career in welding, he is gaining experience in the trade by taking courses at the Craft Training Center of the Coastal Bend and by working with his grandfather, who is a certified welder; Mr. Sutherland plans to attend vocational school after graduating; and WHEREAS, This outstanding young Texan has pursued his goals with tremendous dedication, and he may take great pride in all that he has accomplished as he looks ahead to a future bright with promise; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Robert Sutherland on his selection as a 2014 Corpus Christi Caller-Times/Citgo South Texas Distinguished Scholar and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Sutherland as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
