45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the sorrow felt at
67 the tragic loss on September 27, 2013, of three beloved members of
78 the Borger community, Charles Edward Washburn Jr., 91, his wife,
89 Vonnie Washburn, 87, and their daughter, Cheryl Anne Dacus, 56; and
910 WHEREAS, Caring parents and grandparents, Mr. and
1011 Mrs. Washburn nurtured a loving family that included their 4
1112 children, 11 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren; together
1213 with their daughter, they drew inspiration from their strong
1314 religious faith and were valued members of the First Baptist Church
1415 of Borger; and
1516 WHEREAS, Chuck Washburn was born in Foard on May 31, 1922, to
1617 Charles and Irene Washburn; he answered his country's call to duty
1718 during World War II, serving in the navy with the 4th Special
1819 Battalion of the Seabees, and went on to enjoy a career as a
1920 supervisor with Phillips Petroleum Company; and
2021 WHEREAS, The former Vonnie Williamson, affectionately known
2122 as "Bess," was born to Vaughn and Nan Williamson on March 1, 1926,
2223 in Haskell County; a member of the Borger Music Club, she played
2324 piano and organ in churches from an early age, and she further
2425 contributed to her community as an election judge; and
2526 WHEREAS, The former Cheryl Anne Washburn was born on August
2627 5, 1957, in Borger; she served as the co-owner of Dakes Catering in
2728 Borger and was also a past president of the Borger Music Club and a
2829 member of the Boomtown Theater; she was involved in her church as a
2930 nursery worker, Sunday school teacher, children's choir director,
3031 and vacation Bible school organizer, and in addition, she coached
3132 softball and taught swimming lessons; devoted to her husband,
3233 David, and her three children, Angela, Emily, and Damon, she
3334 delighted all who knew her with her radiant smile and irrepressible
3435 laughter; and
3536 WHEREAS, Dedicated to their faith, their family, and their
3637 community, these three remarkable Texans were a blessing in many
3738 lives, and they will forever be remembered with great tenderness
3839 and affection by all those who held them dear; now, therefore, be it
3940 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
4041 Legislature hereby pay special tribute to the memory of Charles
4142 Edward Washburn Jr., Vonnie Williamson Washburn, and Cheryl Anne
4243 Dacus and extend deepest condolences to the members of their
4344 family: to Mr. and Mrs. Washburn's children, Larry Washburn and his
4445 wife, Sandra, Terry Washburn and his wife, Ruthie, and Doug
4546 Washburn and his wife, Janie; to Mrs. Washburn's siblings, Gene,
4647 Frank, Doug, and Tom Williamson, Patsy Poynor, and Ruthie Bankston;
4748 to Mrs. Dacus's husband, David Dacus, and her children, Angela
4849 Wakefield and her husband, Sam, and Emily Rios and her husband,
4950 Jose; to Mrs. Dacus's grandchildren, Aralyn Wakefield, Sterling
5051 Dacus, and Eloria Wakefield; and to their other relatives and
5152 friends; and, be it further
5253 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5354 prepared for their family and that when the Texas House of
5455 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Charles
5556 Edward Washburn Jr., Vonnie Williamson Washburn, and Cheryl Anne
5657 Dacus.
