H.R. No. 3241 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, A number of talented young men and women have provided indispensable support as legislative interns in the office of State Representative Eric Johnson during the 84th Legislative Session; and WHEREAS, Since joining the staff, these young Texans have handled a wide variety of challenging tasks for the office, which have included reading, analyzing, and researching bills and addressing the needs of constituents; in addition to learning more about the legislative process and the issues facing citizens of the Lone Star State, they have gained valuable experience in the field of public service; and WHEREAS, Mariam Ahmed, the daughter of Irfan and Nousheen Ahmed, is a first-year master's student in the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at The University of Texas; she looks forward to continuing her work in policy research as part of a career with a government agency or nonprofit organization; and WHEREAS, The daughter of Jana and Jerry Alexander, Hannah Alexander is currently studying at the School of Law at UT, having graduated with a Spanish and political science double major and a minor in philosophy; after completing law school, she hopes to specialize in civil rights impact litigation; and WHEREAS, Kayla Davis, who is also a student at the UT School of Law, is the daughter of Carol and Alan Davis; she previously earned a degree in economics from Emory University and is planning to practice law in Dallas; and WHEREAS, The daughter of Ali and Stephanie Elbanna, Mary Elbanna is a participant in the UT-Dallas Legislative Internship Program and has served as a staffer for the House Committee on Economic & Small Business Development; she expects to graduate with her degree in political science in the spring of 2016 and intends to pursue a career in the realm of law and public service; and WHEREAS, A freshman in the School of Public Affairs at UT, Daniel Khalil is the son of Ali Khalil and Rosemarie Heusinger; he plans to eventually specialize in social and economic policy, to earn his master's degree, and to work either in Texas or in Washington, D.C.; and WHEREAS, Antoinette Mays is an alumna of St. Mary's University School of Law and the daughter of Angela and Herman Baxter; she joined the staff as a participant in the Energy and Environmental Law Internship Program, with her responsibilities encompassing research into those topics, and she hopes to find employment with an energy company and specialize in regulatory and compliance issues; and WHEREAS, The son of Mallerick and Loretta Warnell, Mallerick "Rick" Warnell II is taking part in the Texas Legislative Internship Program; he is currently a senior at Lamar University, where he is working toward a bachelor's degree in psychology; and WHEREAS, The members of this notable group have performed their duties as legislative interns with great skill and diligence, and they are indeed deserving of special recognition for their fine work; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas Legislature hereby commend the legislative interns who have served in the office of State Representative Eric Johnson and extend to each of them sincere best wishes for continued success in all their endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Ahmed, Ms. Alexander, Ms. Davis, Ms. Elbanna, Mr. Khalil, Ms. Mays, and Mr. Warnell as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
