H.R. No. 3362 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The members of the Greenville Middle School Gigabots teams distinguished themselves with their performance at the 2015 CREATE U.S. Open Robotics Championship - VEX middle school division from April 7 through 9; and WHEREAS, By working on robotics projects, students are able to further their knowledge across the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math and also enhance such useful skills as critical thinking, imagination, and collaboration; and WHEREAS, After putting in thousands of hours of practice and building time, the Gigabots faced off against other top squads from across the country for the CREATE event in Council Bluffs, Iowa; following the qualification rounds, where Gigabots team A placed first and team C placed second, teams A, E, and D formed an alliance and moved on to the elimination stage, where the Greenville students triumphed over more than 60 other teams to be crowned the tournament and national champions; and WHEREAS, Gigabots team A, which also received the Excellence Award and the Robot Skills Winner award, featured Jordan Frimpter, Trenton Burns, Tessa Mitchell, Austin Burns, and Yeonsoo Jung; team E was composed of Dallas Davies, Nick Stromberg, Kian Smith, Heaven Phillips, and Cheyenne Saling, and team D included Noah Stone, Faith Clayton, Corbin Hudgins, Jacob Koger, and Brady Diggs; Pierce Thurmond, Javier Littlefield, Ethan McGee, and Brett Ozarowski made up team C; the students were ably guided by coaches Orion Casper and Nicole Masters and mentor Johnny Tharp; and WHEREAS, Through their involvement with the CREATE robotics competition, these fine young Texans have demonstrated their talents for problem-solving and innovation, and they may indeed take pride in a job well done; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate the Greenville Middle School Gigabots teams on winning the 2015 CREATE U.S. Open Robotics Championship - VEX middle school division and extend to the students and their coaches and mentor sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the Gigabots as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
