5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The citizens of Mount Pleasant lost an admired civic |

6 | 7 | | leader with the passing of former mayor William Clark Chambers on |

7 | 8 | | August 16, 2014, at the age of 75; and |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The son of Ewing and Josephine Harlow Chambers, Bill |
---|
9 | 10 | | Chambers was born in Jasonville, Indiana, on September 9, 1938; |
---|
10 | 11 | | though he began his life in Indiana, he later moved to North Texas |
---|
11 | 12 | | and made the city of Mount Pleasant his home; there, he owned his |
---|
12 | 13 | | own business, Chambers Pharmacy, and cofounded American National |
---|
13 | 14 | | Bank of Mount Pleasant; and |
---|
14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Chambers began his career in public service in |
---|
15 | 16 | | 1972, when he was elected to the Mount Pleasant Independent School |
---|
16 | 17 | | District Board of Trustees, which he served on for a total of nine |
---|
17 | 18 | | years; he subsequently ran for mayor and won, ousting an incumbent |
---|
18 | 19 | | in 1995; during his tenure in office, he was instrumental in the |
---|
19 | 20 | | construction of Heritage Park, a 60-acre recreation facility |
---|
20 | 21 | | featuring a pavilion, sports fields, and fishing piers; and |
---|
21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Mr. Chambers enjoyed the |

22 | 23 | | support of a loving family that included his wife, Rosalie, his two |
---|
23 | 24 | | sons, William and Tim, his daughter, Melissa, and his six |
---|
24 | 25 | | grandchildren; he was also sustained by his faith, and he was a |
---|
25 | 26 | | valued member of the First Baptist Church of Mount Pleasant; and |
---|
26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Bill Chambers built a life that was rich in family, |
---|
27 | 28 | | friends, and accomplishments, and he will long be fondly remembered |
---|
28 | 29 | | by all those who were fortunate enough to know him; now, therefore, |

30 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

31 | 32 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of William Clark |

32 | 33 | | Chambers and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: |
