45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, The citizens of Mount Pleasant lost an admired civic
67 leader with the passing of former mayor William Clark Chambers on
78 August 16, 2014, at the age of 75; and
89 WHEREAS, The son of Ewing and Josephine Harlow Chambers, Bill
910 Chambers was born in Jasonville, Indiana, on September 9, 1938;
1011 though he began his life in Indiana, he later moved to North Texas
1112 and made the city of Mount Pleasant his home; there, he owned his
1213 own business, Chambers Pharmacy, and cofounded American National
1314 Bank of Mount Pleasant; and
1415 WHEREAS, Mr. Chambers began his career in public service in
1516 1972, when he was elected to the Mount Pleasant Independent School
1617 District Board of Trustees, which he served on for a total of nine
1718 years; he subsequently ran for mayor and won, ousting an incumbent
1819 in 1995; during his tenure in office, he was instrumental in the
1920 construction of Heritage Park, a 60-acre recreation facility
2021 featuring a pavilion, sports fields, and fishing piers; and
2122 WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Mr. Chambers enjoyed the
2223 support of a loving family that included his wife, Rosalie, his two
2324 sons, William and Tim, his daughter, Melissa, and his six
2425 grandchildren; he was also sustained by his faith, and he was a
2526 valued member of the First Baptist Church of Mount Pleasant; and
2627 WHEREAS, Bill Chambers built a life that was rich in family,
2728 friends, and accomplishments, and he will long be fondly remembered
2829 by all those who were fortunate enough to know him; now, therefore,
2930 be it
3031 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
3132 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of William Clark
3233 Chambers and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family:
3334 to his wife, Rosalie Chambers; to his sons and daughters-in-law,
3435 William and Cathy Chambers and Tim and Veronica Chambers; to his
3536 daughter, Melissa Whitehead; to his grandchildren, David, Anthony,
3637 and Michael Chambers, Krystin and Blayne Henke, and Madison
3738 Whitehead; to his brother, Gene Chambers; and to his other
3839 relatives and many friends; and, be it further
3940 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4041 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4142 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of William
4243 Clark Chambers.
