H.R. No. 506 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Ingleside High School Students Against Destructive Decisions is an organization that strives to reduce drug, tobacco, and alcohol use in schools and the community; and WHEREAS, SADD works to encourage students from kindergarten through high school to make smart choices, and it provides tools to help students who face problems of drug use, underage drinking, impaired driving, and other actions associated with destructive decisions; and WHEREAS, The Ingleside High School SADD group, which was established in 2009, has engaged in a variety of projects over the years to address such issues; members organized an annual Tobacco Free Kids Day Silent March, with each year's theme focusing on a different tobacco statistic, and they recently hosted a Celebration Vocal March; one year the group planned a Drug Free Family Fun Day that drew nearly 1,000 citizens; additionally, students arrange Red Ribbon Week activities, and they have invited speakers to come to their school and talk about the dangers of texting and driving; they also held a Tobacco Free Walk to raise money for the American Cancer Society; and WHEREAS, The young Texans participating in the Ingleside High School Students Against Destructive Decisions events have distinguished themselves through their dedication to these worthy endeavors, and they indeed deserve special recognition for their commitment to the greater good; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas Legislature hereby commend Ingleside High School Students Against Destructive Decisions and extend to all those associated with the organization sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the group as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
