| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Respected speech pathologist Carmen Pagan is being |

| 6 | 7 | | honored as a 2015 Pillar of Success by The University of Texas-Pan |

| 7 | 8 | | American Alumni Association at its Alumni Ball on February 27, |

| 8 | 9 | | 2015; and |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Each year, the UTPA Alumni Association celebrates a |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | select group of distinguished alumni for their professional |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | excellence and for their service to the community and their alma |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | mater; and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Carmen Pagan earned her bachelor's and master's |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | degrees in communication disorders from UTPA in 1987 and 1989, |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | respectively, and over the past two decades, she has achieved a |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | sterling reputation with her clinical work as a bilingual |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | speech-language pathologist, specializing in the treatment of |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | children with neuromuscular disorders; and |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, This accomplished woman is a co-owner and executive |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | board member of Milestones Therapeutic Associates; she holds |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | membership in both the American and Texas Speech-Language-Hearing |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | Associations and has chaired the certification committee of the |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | Neuro-Developmental Treatment Association; and |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Pagan has also given generously of her time and |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | talents as a member of several state advisory panels; she is |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | currently serving as chair of the Governor's Commission for Women, |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | a group to which she was first appointed by Governor Rick Perry in |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | 2005, and she has served on the State Health Services Council; |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | engaged in constructive endeavors at the local level as well, she is |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | a sustaining member of the Junior League of McAllen; and |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Benefiting from the solid educational foundation |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | that she received at UTPA, Carmen Pagan has made a positive |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | difference in the lives of countless children and demonstrated her |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | commitment to her community and her state, and she is indeed a |
|---|
| 35 | 36 | | worthy recipient of this prestigious honor; now, therefore, be it |

| 36 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

| 37 | 38 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Carmen Pagan on her selection as a |

| 38 | 39 | | 2015 Pillar of Success by The University of Texas-Pan American |

| 39 | 40 | | Alumni Association and extend to her sincere best wishes for |
