H.R. No. 585 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Respected speech pathologist Carmen Pagan is being honored as a 2015 Pillar of Success by The University of Texas-Pan American Alumni Association at its Alumni Ball on February 27, 2015; and WHEREAS, Each year, the UTPA Alumni Association celebrates a select group of distinguished alumni for their professional excellence and for their service to the community and their alma mater; and WHEREAS, Carmen Pagan earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in communication disorders from UTPA in 1987 and 1989, respectively, and over the past two decades, she has achieved a sterling reputation with her clinical work as a bilingual speech-language pathologist, specializing in the treatment of children with neuromuscular disorders; and WHEREAS, This accomplished woman is a co-owner and executive board member of Milestones Therapeutic Associates; she holds membership in both the American and Texas Speech-Language-Hearing Associations and has chaired the certification committee of the Neuro-Developmental Treatment Association; and WHEREAS, Ms. Pagan has also given generously of her time and talents as a member of several state advisory panels; she is currently serving as chair of the Governor's Commission for Women, a group to which she was first appointed by Governor Rick Perry in 2005, and she has served on the State Health Services Council; engaged in constructive endeavors at the local level as well, she is a sustaining member of the Junior League of McAllen; and WHEREAS, Benefiting from the solid educational foundation that she received at UTPA, Carmen Pagan has made a positive difference in the lives of countless children and demonstrated her commitment to her community and her state, and she is indeed a worthy recipient of this prestigious honor; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Carmen Pagan on her selection as a 2015 Pillar of Success by The University of Texas-Pan American Alumni Association and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Pagan as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
