 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Jody Nelsen of Edinburg has positively impacted the
 lives of myriad people through her important work as president of
 the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley Board of Directors; and
 WHEREAS, Ms. Nelsen obtained a bachelor's degree in business
 administration from Loyola University in 1990 and went on to attend
 The University of Texas at Dallas, where she earned her MBA in 1997;
 after serving as associate and interim vice president for business
 affairs at UT-Dallas, she became executive vice president for
 finance and administration at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi;
 when her husband, Dr. Robert Nelsen, was named president of The
 University of Texas-Pan American, she retired and moved with him to
 Edinburg, which led to her involvement with the Food Bank of the Rio
 Grande Valley; and
 WHEREAS, Every week this notable organization serves more
 than 42,000 meals to residents in need in Hidalgo, Willacy, and
 Cameron Counties; founded in 1983, the Food Bank is now the 36th
 largest in the country and the 5th largest in Texas, and it is
 benefiting many people in the Rio Grande Valley by providing vital
 food assistance, nutrition education, and access to community
 services; ably supporting its mission, Ms. Nelsen has been an
 active member of the group's board of directors for four years and
 is currently in her second year as president; and
 WHEREAS, Through her efforts with the Food Bank, Ms. Nelsen
 also became involved with the UT-Pan American Student Food Pantry
 Advisory Board; each week the pantry's new campus facility provides
 some 150 students with meals, helping them to meet a basic need so
 they can better focus on their studies and prepare for the future;
 and
 WHEREAS, The selfless contributions of community leaders
 improve the lives of others in countless ways, and the citizens of
 Edinburg and the Rio Grande Valley are indeed fortunate to count
 Jody Nelsen among their fellow residents; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
 Legislature hereby commend Jody Nelsen for her exemplary leadership
 as president of the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley Board of
 Directors and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued
 success; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Ms. Nelsen as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
