45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Texas singer and songwriter Savion Wright is a Top
67 24 finalist on the 2015 season of American Idol; and
78 WHEREAS, A student at Baylor University and a Jasper native,
89 Mr. Wright is competing for the second consecutive year on the hit
910 show; after making it to the top 48 last year, he went to work
1011 writing and touring, honing his talents as a musician and a
1112 performer before returning to impress the Idol judges once again;
1213 and
1314 WHEREAS, Mr. Wright's musical journey started at the age of
1415 12 when his brother bought him a guitar for Christmas; he was a
1516 quick learner and impressed his family with a version of Otis
1617 Redding's "Sitting on the Dock of the Bay"; by the time he first
1718 tried out for Idol, he had started writing his own songs, and he
1819 auditioned with a memorable performance of an original, "Dark Side
1920 of Me"; and
2021 WHEREAS, Savion Wright has won the hearts of millions of
2122 television viewers across the nation, and he stands on the
2223 threshold of what will surely be a bright and rewarding future; now,
2324 therefore, be it
2425 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
2526 Legislature hereby congratulate Savion Wright on his selection as a
2627 Top 24 finalist on American Idol and extend to him sincere best
2728 wishes for continued success; and, be it further
2829 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2930 prepared for Mr. Wright as an expression of high regard by the Texas
3031 House of Representatives.
