H.R. No. 829 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Texas singer and songwriter Savion Wright is a Top 24 finalist on the 2015 season of American Idol; and WHEREAS, A student at Baylor University and a Jasper native, Mr. Wright is competing for the second consecutive year on the hit show; after making it to the top 48 last year, he went to work writing and touring, honing his talents as a musician and a performer before returning to impress the Idol judges once again; and WHEREAS, Mr. Wright's musical journey started at the age of 12 when his brother bought him a guitar for Christmas; he was a quick learner and impressed his family with a version of Otis Redding's "Sitting on the Dock of the Bay"; by the time he first tried out for Idol, he had started writing his own songs, and he auditioned with a memorable performance of an original, "Dark Side of Me"; and WHEREAS, Savion Wright has won the hearts of millions of television viewers across the nation, and he stands on the threshold of what will surely be a bright and rewarding future; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Savion Wright on his selection as a Top 24 finalist on American Idol and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Wright as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
