| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, St. David's HealthCare has been honored with a 2014 |

| 6 | 7 | | Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, and this accolade provides |

| 7 | 8 | | a fitting opportunity to recognize the organization for its |

| 8 | 9 | | important work; and |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, The Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award is named |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | for former U.S. secretary of commerce Malcolm Baldrige, whose |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | managerial ability contributed to the long-term improvement of |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | governmental efficiency and effectiveness; administered by the |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | current U.S. secretary of commerce, the award is given to |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | organizations that embody this tradition of excellence and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | demonstrate outstanding innovation and visionary leadership; and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, One of only four recipients of this prestigious |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | honor for 2014, St. David's HealthCare is one of the largest health |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | care systems in the state, employing over 8,100 associates and |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | supported by nearly 2,000 staff members; it operates more than 90 |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | sites in and around Central Texas, including six hospitals and a |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | number of ambulatory surgery centers, freestanding emergency |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | centers, urgent care clinics, rehabilitation facilities, and |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | physician practices; and |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, St. David's is run through a partnership between the |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | management company Hospital Corporation of America and two local |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | nonprofit organizations, the St. David's Foundation and the |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | Georgetown Health Foundation; proceeds from St. David's hospitals |

| 28 | 29 | | and facilities directly fund the St. David's Foundation, which in |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | turn invests the money back into the community; and |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Embracing its mission to protect and promote the |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | health and well-being of area residents, St. David's HealthCare is |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | a vital asset to the Lone Star State, and it is indeed worthy of |

| 33 | 34 | | special recognition for its many achievements; now, therefore, be |

| 35 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
