H.R. No. 836
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, St. David's HealthCare has been honored with a 2014
Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, and this accolade provides
a fitting opportunity to recognize the organization for its
important work; and
WHEREAS, The Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award is named
for former U.S. secretary of commerce Malcolm Baldrige, whose
managerial ability contributed to the long-term improvement of
governmental efficiency and effectiveness; administered by the
current U.S. secretary of commerce, the award is given to
organizations that embody this tradition of excellence and
demonstrate outstanding innovation and visionary leadership; and
WHEREAS, One of only four recipients of this prestigious
honor for 2014, St. David's HealthCare is one of the largest health
care systems in the state, employing over 8,100 associates and
supported by nearly 2,000 staff members; it operates more than 90
sites in and around Central Texas, including six hospitals and a
number of ambulatory surgery centers, freestanding emergency
centers, urgent care clinics, rehabilitation facilities, and
physician practices; and
WHEREAS, St. David's is run through a partnership between the
management company Hospital Corporation of America and two local
nonprofit organizations, the St. David's Foundation and the
Georgetown Health Foundation; proceeds from St. David's hospitals
and facilities directly fund the St. David's Foundation, which in
turn invests the money back into the community; and
WHEREAS, Embracing its mission to protect and promote the
health and well-being of area residents, St. David's HealthCare is
a vital asset to the Lone Star State, and it is indeed worthy of
special recognition for its many achievements; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
Legislature hereby commend St. David's HealthCare on its receipt of
a 2014 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award and extend to all
those associated with the organization sincere best wishes for the
future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
