| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, La Union del Pueblo Entero has been working in |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, A nonprofit organization formed in 2003 as an |

| 9 | 10 | | extension of the United Farm Workers movement, LUPE endeavors to |

| 10 | 11 | | unite low-income and underrepresented citizens of the community to |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | advance their standing on the social, economic, and political |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | stages; the group, a member of the RGV Equal Voice Network funded by |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | the Marguerite Casey Foundation, is focused on improving the living |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | conditions, health care opportunities, and immigrant rights for |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | colonia residents in the Rio Grande Valley; and |

| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Under the able guidance of its executive director, |

| 17 | 18 | | Juanita Valdez-Cox, LUPE has established five offices across |

| 18 | 19 | | Hidalgo County; in addition to serving as an organizational model, |

| 19 | 20 | | LUPE offers a variety of social services to assist its members, |

| 20 | 21 | | including help with immigration applications, income tax returns, |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | and advocacy for workers' rights; and |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, LUPE is making a lasting and positive difference in |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | the lives of colonia residents in Hidalgo County and beyond, and all |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | those involved indeed merit special recognition for their efforts |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | to create a brighter future in the Lone Star State; now, therefore, |

| 27 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

| 28 | 29 | | Legislature hereby honor La Union del Pueblo Entero for its service |
