5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close on October |

6 | 7 | | 18, 2014, with the death of Dr. Richard Earl Morris of Arlington at |

7 | 8 | | the age of 83; and |
---|
8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Morris was born on September 25, 1931, in |
---|
9 | 10 | | Woodward, Oklahoma, to Winfield and Sylvia Morris; after graduating |
---|
10 | 11 | | from Woodward High School in 1949, he answered his nation's call to |
---|
11 | 12 | | duty and joined the U.S. Air Force in 1950; and |
---|
12 | 13 | | WHEREAS, In 1955, Richard Morris enrolled at the University |
---|
13 | 14 | | of Oklahoma, and he graduated from the university's school of |
---|
14 | 15 | | medicine in 1963; that same year, he embarked on his medical career |
---|
15 | 16 | | as an intern at Dallas Methodist Hospital, and in 1964, he began his |
---|
16 | 17 | | residency at Parkland Memorial Hospital; he joined the |
---|
17 | 18 | | Anesthesiology Association of Arlington in 1967 and received his |
---|
18 | 19 | | board certification in 1970; and |
---|
19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Morris returned to Parkland in 1972 as an |
---|
20 | 21 | | associate professor and as the burn unit's head of anesthesiology; |
---|
21 | 22 | | the following year, he joined the staff of Dallas Children's |
---|
22 | 23 | | Hospital, where he served as head of anesthesiology for the next 11 |
---|
23 | 24 | | years; in 1984, he returned to private practice with the |
---|
24 | 25 | | Anesthesiology Association of Arlington, and he retired in 2007; |
---|
25 | 26 | | and |

26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Dr. Morris enjoyed the love |
---|
27 | 28 | | and support of his wife, Ann, and of his three daughters; and |
---|
28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, While the death of Richard Morris brings |
---|
29 | 30 | | immeasurable sorrow to his family and friends, he leaves behind a |
---|
30 | 31 | | record of exemplary service that will long be treasured by all those |
---|
31 | 32 | | who held him dear; now, therefore, be it |

32 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

33 | 34 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Richard Earl Morris |

34 | 35 | | and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his |

35 | 36 | | wife of 47 years, Ann Morris; to his daughters, Janna Morris, Shelly |

36 | 37 | | Beasecker, and Tami Morris; to his grandchildren, S. Christopher |
