45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close on October
67 18, 2014, with the death of Dr. Richard Earl Morris of Arlington at
78 the age of 83; and
89 WHEREAS, Dr. Morris was born on September 25, 1931, in
910 Woodward, Oklahoma, to Winfield and Sylvia Morris; after graduating
1011 from Woodward High School in 1949, he answered his nation's call to
1112 duty and joined the U.S. Air Force in 1950; and
1213 WHEREAS, In 1955, Richard Morris enrolled at the University
1314 of Oklahoma, and he graduated from the university's school of
1415 medicine in 1963; that same year, he embarked on his medical career
1516 as an intern at Dallas Methodist Hospital, and in 1964, he began his
1617 residency at Parkland Memorial Hospital; he joined the
1718 Anesthesiology Association of Arlington in 1967 and received his
1819 board certification in 1970; and
1920 WHEREAS, Dr. Morris returned to Parkland in 1972 as an
2021 associate professor and as the burn unit's head of anesthesiology;
2122 the following year, he joined the staff of Dallas Children's
2223 Hospital, where he served as head of anesthesiology for the next 11
2324 years; in 1984, he returned to private practice with the
2425 Anesthesiology Association of Arlington, and he retired in 2007;
2526 and
2627 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Dr. Morris enjoyed the love
2728 and support of his wife, Ann, and of his three daughters; and
2829 WHEREAS, While the death of Richard Morris brings
2930 immeasurable sorrow to his family and friends, he leaves behind a
3031 record of exemplary service that will long be treasured by all those
3132 who held him dear; now, therefore, be it
3233 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
3334 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Richard Earl Morris
3435 and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his
3536 wife of 47 years, Ann Morris; to his daughters, Janna Morris, Shelly
3637 Beasecker, and Tami Morris; to his grandchildren, S. Christopher
3738 Shipe, Jaquelyne Shipe, Garrett Elliott, Richard Beasecker, and
3839 Mitchell Beasecker; to his sister, Opal Dunsworth; and to his other
3940 relatives and friends; and, be it further
4041 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4142 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4243 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
4344 Dr. Richard Earl Morris.
