                    LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD    Austin, Texas      FISCAL NOTE, 84TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION            May 18, 2015      TO: Honorable Jodie Laubenberg, Chair, House Committee on Elections      FROM: Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board     IN RE:SB1041 by Bettencourt (Relating to required disclosures in and to the length of ballot proposition language authorizing political subdivisions to issue bonds or impose or change a tax.), As Engrossed    No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.  The bill would amend the Election Code to require certain political subdivisions to include certain debt or tax information on propositions submitted to voters for approval of the issuance of bonds or the imposition, increase, or reduction of a tax. The bill sets forth required contents of certain ballot propositions and limits a proposition to 5,000 characters or a different limit as prescribed by the Secretary of State that ensures the length of the proposition does not exceed one page or one screen on an electronic voting machine.  Local Government Impact No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
