| 8 | 8 | | students by certain public institutions of higher education. |

| 9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Section 54.015, Education Code, is amended to |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | read as follows: |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Sec. 54.015. BILLING AND NOTIFICATION FOR TUITION AND FEES. |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | (a) In this section, "general academic teaching institution" and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | "public state college" have the meanings assigned by Section |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | 61.003. |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | (b) A general academic teaching institution other than a |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | public state college shall provide to each student enrolled at the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | institution for a semester or term a tuition and fee bill or other |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | billing statement for that semester or term. The bill or statement |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | must: |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | (1) state the total amount of all tuition and fees |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | charged to the student for the semester or term; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | (2) include an itemized list of: |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | (A) the tuition and fees charged to the student |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | by the institution for each course in which the student is enrolled |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | for that semester or term; and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | (B) each other fee charged to the student by the |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | institution for that semester or term. |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | (c) For billing and catalogue purposes, each governing |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | board shall accumulate all the tuition that it charges under this |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | chapter into one tuition charge. |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | beginning with the 2015 fall semester. |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
