55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to tuition and fee bills or billing statements provided to
88 students by certain public institutions of higher education.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 54.015, Education Code, is amended to
1111 read as follows:
1212 Sec. 54.015. BILLING AND NOTIFICATION FOR TUITION AND FEES.
1313 (a) In this section, "general academic teaching institution" and
1414 "public state college" have the meanings assigned by Section
1515 61.003.
1616 (b) A general academic teaching institution other than a
1717 public state college shall provide to each student enrolled at the
1818 institution for a semester or term a tuition and fee bill or other
1919 billing statement for that semester or term. The bill or statement
2020 must:
2121 (1) state the total amount of all tuition and fees
2222 charged to the student for the semester or term; and
2323 (2) include an itemized list of:
2424 (A) the tuition and fees charged to the student
2525 by the institution for each course in which the student is enrolled
2626 for that semester or term; and
2727 (B) each other fee charged to the student by the
2828 institution for that semester or term.
2929 (c) For billing and catalogue purposes, each governing
3030 board shall accumulate all the tuition that it charges under this
3131 chapter into one tuition charge.
3232 SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies
3333 beginning with the 2015 fall semester.
3434 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
3535 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
3636 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3737 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3838 Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
