| 8 | 8 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 9 | 9 | SECTION 1. Chapter 159, Occupations Code, is amended by | |
| 10 | 10 | adding Section 159.011 to read as follows: | |
| 11 | 11 | Sec. 159.011. INQUIRY INTO FIREARM OWNERSHIP. A physician | |
| 12 | 12 | who requests that a patient or a parent or guardian of a patient | |
| 13 | 13 | provide information regarding firearm ownership by the patient, | |
| 14 | 14 | parent, or guardian shall disclose to the patient, parent, or | |
| 15 | 15 | guardian: | |
| 16 | 16 | (1) why the information is requested; and | |
| 17 | 17 | (2) to whom the information will be provided and for | |
| 18 | 18 | what purpose, if the physician is requesting the information other | |
| 19 | 19 | than for the physician's own patient records. | |
| 20 | 20 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
